Creative Movie Review

Write for us

We welcome pitches about creative film-making that give readers a clear idea to try, a choice to consider or a useful way to learn from an imperfect result. Send proposals through the Contact page; please do not send a complete article unless we have discussed it first.

What fits

Strong contributions focus on a specific part of making a film: for example, developing a scene, preparing a small shoot, making a visual decision or shaping a sequence in the edit. Pieces should be useful to curious makers with varied experience and equipment. We are interested in thoughtful comparisons, creative exercises and explanations of why a choice may work differently in different circumstances.

Pitch with a clear centre

Tell us the working title, the main idea, who the piece is for and what the reader will be able to understand or try. Explain what makes the approach distinct from a broad introduction to film-making. Be candid about constraints and avoid promising outcomes that depend on gear, skill or circumstances the reader may not have.

What to leave out

We are not looking for undisclosed promotional copy, unsupported claims of expertise or articles that require readers to buy a particular product. Keep examples original and make sure you have permission to share any material you propose. We cannot promise publication or a response time.
